"A VOICE THAT BRINGS YOU TO THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT AND KNOCKS YOUR SOCKS OFF"
BROADWAY WORLD

A dynamic performer of depth and range, Canadian-born Brent Thiessen made his Broadway debut this spring, starring opposite Jessica Vosk in Beaches. Reprising the role he created for the show's international premiere, Brent played John Perry, a theatre director whose identity and marriage unravel as he supports his wife's extraordinary success. New York critics praised his partnership and chemistry with Vosk. They recognized the pair for delivering the show's standout scenes, while highlighting Brent’s vitality as the cool-guy theatre director and noting his blend of charisma, charm, and appeal.
Prior to starring on Broadway, Brent worked with Tony® winner Jerry Mitchell, joining the original national touring company of Pretty Woman. The musical would be instrumental in bringing live theatre back to cities across the country. There, Brent became the first Canadian to perform the role of Edward Lewis in Garry Marshall and Bryan Adams’ adaptation of the iconic film. He earned acclaim for creating a leading man “impossible not to love,” balancing Edward’s sophistication and bravado with a dawning awareness that he might be missing out on the most important things in life.
Beyond the New York theatre scene, Brent continues to establish himself around the United States in leading roles. Among his recent performances, Brent led two companies in Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, first at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, and later as part of an all-star cast for Broadway at Music Circus in Sacramento. Starring as Prince Topher, Brent’s portrayal of a dragon-slaying idealist who transforms from reluctant heir into a compassionate and decisive leader was praised for its charm, sincerity, and masterful vocal command.
In Sara Bareilles’ Waitress at Pioneer Theatre Company in Salt Lake City, Brent shared the stage with a cast of Broadway veterans as Earl, Jenna’s volatile and destructive husband. Critics singled out Brent’s take for "revealing a man ripped apart by fear and a fragile ego rather than a monster," capturing Earl as a faded small-town golden boy haunted by a version of himself he couldn’t let go of.
Before moving to New York City in 2019, Brent was a fixture in the Canadian theatre community. Following his breakout performance as Gaston in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Brent was cast as Trevor Graydon in the Canadian premiere of Thoroughly Modern Millie (directed by Michael Lichtefeld). He impressed critics with his comic turn as Millie's demanding, ambitious boss, playfully undone by a helpless infatuation. Brent then joined Stafford Arima’s "vocally sumptuous" production of The Secret Garden as Neville Craven, an imperious doctor caged in grief, resentment, and buried love. A “transcendent” run as Buddy in Elf earned him a spot on the Hamilton Spectator’s list of the best theatre performances of 2018, alongside Glenda Jackson and Ian McKellen.
When he is not performing, Brent loves spending time outdoors, especially in the water, on a tennis court, enjoying a bike ride, or taking a long walk with his wife, Jennifer. Brent is currently developing his debut Broadway EP.
